About me
I assist leaders in shaping their organisation’s vision, pinpointing where to play and outlining strategies to succeed in how to win. Combining analytical rigour, AI-enabled insights and 25 years of experience, I help bring vision-led destinations to life.
Each challenge I tackle is a chance to find a silver lining and to build the organisational capabilities needed for a better future. I work closely with clients as partners, approaching the work as a craft to deliver strategic insights that generate impactful results.
How I work
I am most useful when you want clarity, not theatre.
Start with the decision and the constraint
Write short papers that force choices
Agree owners and dates, then keep the rhythm
Call out risks early, including the awkward ones
Be clear about what I will not do
If you need a large team, a big programme or a long slide deck, I am probably not the right fit.
From Strategy to Results: Making it Stick
Strategy Design
Determining where to play and how to win.
I apply analytical rigour to identify the most attractive arenas and the few competitive advantages that can realistically be built and defended.
Value creation
Turning strategic opportunities into measurable value.
I combine data-driven insights with value proposition design, process redesign, and capability building so that growth initiatives produce tangible outcomes, not just compelling plans.
Transformation
Solving systemic puzzles from the initial idea to execution.
I provide steady leadership for high-stakes change programmes, often in healthcare and technology, navigating the roadblocks that commonly derail large transitions.
Strategy activation
Building the organisational capability to deliver results.
I translate strategy into practical behavioural playbooks, ways of working, decision rights and operating rhythms so it becomes a living culture, not a document on a shelf.
Strategic Governance
Providing board-level oversight as an “architect of hope”.
I offer independent strategic clarity and rigorous governance, clear options, risk oversight and stakeholder alignment so boards can lead with integrity and deliver long-term success.
Career roles
Bright Intervals
Director
(2011 to present)
With over 14 years as an independent consultant, I have enjoyed helping boards and private equity investors navigate complexity to discover clear, inspiring strategic paths. I bring together 25 years of strategic experience with AI-enabled insight to craft essential growth strategies that turn challenging puzzles into practical direction.
I am particularly interested in bridging the gap between a plan on paper and the organisational capability needed to bring it to life. By transforming complex supply and demand models and detailed insight into actionable plans, I help leadership teams build strategic clarity, alignment and momentum that translate into measurable results.

Durston House School
Governor & Former Co-Chair
(2023 to present)
I joined the Board of Governors at Durston House School as a former parent. I provided constructive challenge, ensured appropriate controls and reporting were in place and supported the Board in setting strategy, monitoring delivery and managing risk.
I took up the Co-Chair role in autumn 2024 following the retirement of my predecessor, contributing to strategic decisions and helping maintain strong governance cadence, committee effectiveness and accountability. Following the decision to merge to form the St Paul’s School Group, I provided oversight of the merger process from due diligence through post-merger integration. This included review of key documentation, oversight of governance transitions and tracking integration actions. While I stepped down as Co-Chair as part of the merger terms, I have retained my governor role on the new Board post-merger.
Ofcom
Competition Policy Manager
(2006-2011)
At Ofcom, my main goal was to implement right-touch regulation that benefits consumers by promoting effective telecoms and broadcasting markets. Over five years, I spearheaded competition policy initiatives across these sectors, translating complex legal and regulatory frameworks into improved outcomes for consumers.
L.E.K. Consulting
Senior Associate Consultant
(2001-2006)
I established my strategic foundation at L.E.K. as a founding member of the European healthcare practice and a key contributor in the telecoms and media sectors. I led strategy reviews and restructurings for global firms, helping define where to play and how to win.
My commitment to bridging the strategy and execution gap was strengthened through owning and leading technical training programmes for staff worldwide.
My Chess Journey
Chess has been a quiet thread through my life. I played at school, not to any remarkable standard, then left it alone for years.
About seven years ago my son became interested in chess and wanted to learn. He was five at the time and we started playing together. Since then it has become a shared learning journey. We have had coaching, practised, challenged each other and watched our thinking improve over time. These days he is close to being better than me.
Somewhere along the way I surprised myself too. I have now reached a strong intermediate level, I compete in local and UK tournaments and I have a FIDE rating of 1500.
I like the reminder underneath it: we do not stop learning because we are adults or because we are busy. We improve when we stay curious, practise the basics and keep turning up.

I’ll aim to respond within a business day. A bit sooner if it’s a chess move.
